24 September 2009 | Air France Auctioning Off Seats to Benefit FXB
From October 1 through 21st, Air France will be auctioning off 380 seats on each of two inaugural flights on its new Airbus A380. All profits from the sales will be donated to three humanitarian projects that were selected by the Air France Foundation, including the FXB After-School Program in South Africa.
Since 2000, FXB has operated after-school support programs for young people in shantytowns surrounding Johannesburg and the rural area of Witbank. These communities are generally characterized by high rates of unemployment, crime, violence, and HIV. The FXB After-School Programs specifically address the moral distress of children and young people, and provide them with medical assistance, meals, tutoring, sexual reproductive health education, leadership development, and life-skills training such as financial planning. The program has also helped several young people find apprenticeships in a variety of trades.
Profits from the sale will help launch new FXB After-School Programs.
The two inaugural flights on the Airbus 380 will fly from Paris to New York on November 20th, 2009, and return New York to Paris on November 21st, 2009.
